Face value reselling is the future and it looks like Ticketmaster has finally acknowledged it

In some of the more positive news to come out of the world today, two of the most controversial ticket resale sites, which corner punters into paying hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of pounds for overpriced tickets will be closing very soon.

The Ticketmaster-owned Stubhub and Get Me In are two of the most notorious websites which determined concert-goers turn to if tickets have sold out from the original seller. Back in 2016, those who wanted to see Adele were given the chance to buy a ticket on Get Me In at the very reasonable sum of £24,840. That's almost as much a university degree. Almost.

Thankfully the two aforementioned organisations are closing, with Ticketmaster introducing a new scheme which allows you to resell tickets on their own website, with the price capped at original face value. There will, however, still be a 15% surcharge on all resold tickets to cover the booking fees paid by the original purchaser, which is a bit of a blow, but nowhere near the price-gouging that we've grown used to in the ticket reselling industry.

The equally controversial (and not Ticketmaster owned) Viagogo are still operating and will no doubt receive a boost in sales following the closure of these two resellers. Still, it's a step in the right direction, and lots of artists will be in favour of this move. Ed Sheeran has publicly denounced sites like Stubhub and he and many, many other musicians have endorsed organisations such as Twickets - the OG when it comes to reselling at face value.

Stubhub and Get Me In will be closing down for us in the UK and Ireland in October and as of today (August 13), no more events will be listed on the platforms.

Oh, and next time you buy an online ticket, remember that there's this handy site called native that endeavours to list every ticket option for every event, so students don't get rinsed by exorbitant ticket fees. Just sayin'.
