Chance The Rapper is set to hold a press conference regarding the Chicago mayoral election at 4pm GMT (10m CST).

Earlier today Chance tweeted the above image. Shortly before, he had tweeted the phrase 'I'm thinking maybe I should', quickly identified as half of a lyric from his 2015 track "Somewhere in Paradise". The full lyric reads "They're screaming Chano for mayor, I'm thinking maybe I should".

Chance has long been involved in politics - his father Kenneth Williams-Bennett worked as an aide under Rahm Emanuel, Chicago's current mayor, and under Barack Obama during his eight-year presidency.

Chance himself (full name Chancelor Bennett) has launched a number of creative and socially-conscious projects in the city, for which he shows great adulation. Back in 2015 his Warmest Winter initiative provided over 1000 winter coats to Chicago's homeless, and his Social Works charity has raised millions of dollars for Chicago Public Schools.

So, unlike some celebrities, we think Chance would actually make an amazing politician. However, there is speculation that Chance will only be endorsing a candidate of the mayoral election, rather than running himself. The name being suggested is Amara Enyia, director of the Austin Chamber of Commerce.

As much as we'd all love to see Chance take office, at 25 years old, he's only just hitting the height of his powers as a musician and a four-year stint as mayor would almost certainly see him put his music career on hold.

Last month, Rahm Emanuel announced that he would not be seeking re-election in 2019, potentially leaving the door open for Chance to kick-off a mayoral campaign.
