This is an absolute rollercoaster

Band break-ups are always intense. The rock'n'roll lifestyle, fame, drugs, touring, all of it can take its toll on a tight-knit group spending almost every waking hour together.

Fans usually find out about these events through a gut-punching social media post. One day you're walking along listening to My Chemical Romance, the next, your world has been turned upside-down. We've all been there.

Sometimes break-ups are messy, but often these announcements are carefully constructed PR pieces, delicately woven to protect the band's image in these dark times. Not so, with Witchrot.

According to an update posted on Facebook by the Canadian band on Sunday (November 25), the band will be taking an "extended hiatus" due to "the unfortunate reality of our guitarist fucking my girlfriend of almost 7 years.”

Yes, you're right. That is a lot to unpack.

The post, signed off by an individual named Peter, goes on to say that he is “ripe with hate” and that the band will continue in some form, fueled by said rage. And then, yes, dropped in the at the end as little more than an aside, Peter writes “Also our drummer died."

The final, cruel twist of irony is of course that the band's break-up post went viral, giving the group more exposure than they've ever had before.

Reunion tour, anyone?
