10 bands you probably weren't planning on seeing that you definitely should...

Having just added huge names such as Courteeners and Jake Bugg to their already star-studded 2018 lineup, it’s easy to overlook Truck Festival’s other stages.  Between the likes of George Ezra, Peace and Friendly Fires, here’s a guide to some of the newer bands and artists you’d be a fool to miss…

1. Blaenavon

Blaenavon’s debut album, That’s Your Lot, is a work of art ranging from venue shaking bangers to the intricately intimate ballads. But there’s nothing quite like seeing the Hampshire trio live. Expect an insane amount of energy, dynamic crowds and even the chance to play the bass.

2. Marika Hackman

With her sharp suits and noir brooding songs, this British singer-songwriter is definitely one to catch. With a voice that has a mesmerising stillness, lyrical poetry, and feisty guitar licks, be sure to catch Marika’s set.

3. Black Honey

This Brighton quartet offer stylish, melodic and equally noisy gigs. Frontwoman Izzy Baxter’s enchanting vocals combined with the guitar’s surf rock vibe and swinging bass lines make for gigs filled with 60s nostalgia, pits and crowd surfing galore.

4. The Magic Gang

Another Brighton quartet here, taking the festival circuit by storm with their own signature brand of art rock, catchy hooks, smooth riffs and bouncy drums. Perfect soundtrack material for dreamy days at the beach or warm evenings in a beer garden, their feel-good anthems will have you singing along in no time.

5. Pale Waves

Blending dark atmospherics and indie pop, this Manchester four-piece will have you dancing in no time. Mentored by The 1975’s Matty Healy and placing fifth on the BBC’s Sound of 2018 poll, we’re expecting huge things for Pale Waves!

6. The Night Cafe

Fresh from supporting indie legends The Wombats, this Liverpool four-piece could definitely be your sound of the summer. Exuding youthful energy through their sweet vocal lines and catchy hooks, The Night Cafe are sure to fill the stage.

8. Gengahr

Having just released their new album ‘Where Wildness Grows’ Gengahr are certainly allowing their music to grow by exploring new places within their signature sound. Moving from their original floaty, dreamy vibe to an edgier twang full of sharp licks and swagger, their set is bound to be an interesting mix of the old and the new.

9. GIRLI

GIRLI’s music hits hard and packs a punch thanks to her irritating-on-purpose vibe and crazy sampling. Dressed head to toe in pink and offending just as many people as she wins over, GIRLI has a hell of a lot to say.

10. The Big Moon

Having supported the likes of Ezra Furman, VANT, The Vaccines and played on Marika Hackman’s second album, the London quartet have won over crowds all over the world. Combining grunge-pop with wry indifference, The Big Moon encapsulate the fearlessness of youth. Expect an electrifying, thunderous set complete with wild instrumental jams.
