In the first of our In Conversation video series, we sit down with DJ, producer, and jazz drummer Paleman

We caught up with the young producer to discuss life after studying, jazz, and the Mariana Trench. Watch:

One of the most interesting producers to come out of the exploratory, post-dubstep era of UK dance music, Calum Lee AKA Paleman, is a young musician with an incredible body of work already under his belt.

From creating one of 2014's most iconic club-ready wobblers in 'Beezledub', released on Loefah's Swamp81 label and spun by DJs as renowned as Boddika and Ben UFO, to collaborating with Mercury Prize jazz nominees Polar Bear, Paleman's music draws equally from the spheres of jazz and UK club culture.

Following a hectic schedule of studying during the week at Chetham's School of Music (previous alumni include Floating Points) and DJing every weekend around the globe, Cal has now graduated with a degree in Jazz Drums, a qualification which invariably informs his electronic productions.

With a little (but not a lot) more time to work with, Paleman has recently released two EPs on personal record label PLMN, continues to DJ and play live sets around Europe and has just finished a run of Rinse FM shows named Trenches where he explores the darkest depths of the electronic spectrum.
