Nina chats going on tour, collaborations and Taylor Swift

Following the success of Nina Nesbitt’s recent single ‘Somebody Special’ which has had over 12 million streams, Nina reveals new track ‘Psychopath’ for the launch of Spotify ‘Louder Together’, a program bringing artists together to collaborate on an original Spotify Singles song in the spirit of community, empowerment and inspiration.

Coinciding with Women’s History Month, Louder Together’s debut single, ‘Psychopath’, partners emerging female artists, Sasha Sloan, Nina Nesbitt and Charlotte Lawrence, who have come together for the first time to create and record an original Spotify Singles song.

‘Psychopath’ is the first multi-artist collaboration for a Spotify Single, and the track centres around the complications of being in love and some of the consequences of a relationship gone wrong.

Still only 23-years- old, Nina Nesbitt has found a way to make it work for her in an industry that often doesn’t give you the time to settle into the artist you want to be. Rather than rush into making another album for the sake of it, she waited for the inspiration to strike and let it slowly take shape organically. What she excels at is being an artist, but one that is fully in control – the very best kind.

What did you love about your recent tour with Jake Bugg?

He’s a really great guy, and we have similar musical tastes as the tour was an acoustic tour, and it was the first time I ever toured in the US, so I really enjoyed it.

You’ve come a long way in such a short time, and your music has evolved over that time, so what has inspired you most?

I love acoustic artists such as Taylor Swift - she was the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place and I’ve tried other styles such as with my song ‘Chewing Gum’ which was really pop-y but I always prefer real instruments.

You’ve recently toured in the US and soon to be the UK, are you planning any more dates?

I’m planning a European tour for the autumn this year actually, and I’ve got pockets of fans all over the world in places such as France, Germany, The Netherlands, and Sweden.

What would be your dream festival to perform at?

I’m performing on the main stage at Parklife this summer, and so will Liam Gallagher and Skepta which I think is really cool.

What inspired your newest single 'Psychopath'?

It was a collaboration with Sasha Sloan and Charlotte Lawrence for Spotify. It was the first track for their new program Louder Together and they put us in a room and asked us to write a song for women empowerment, and 'Psychopath' was what came out of it, and it’s really just a song about empowering women everywhere.

What music are you listening to at the minute?

Any music that has a female artist.

Who would be your dream artist to tour with?

It would probably be Taylor Swift, she’s always been one of my favourite artists.

Are you currently working on any new music?

I have a new 11 track album coming out sometime in the autumn. It sounds similar to my recently released single ‘The Best You Had’ and will be a journey from start to finish.

Your new single 'Somebody Special' has exploded in popularity, what inspired this track?

I wrote the song in Nashville, and it was about getting back together with my ex-boyfriend. We’d go to Walmart together and have fun, and the song was really just about someone you love.

Who is your favourite artist?

I couldn’t pick one of all time, ever, but for me it’s really any female artist who writes her own music. Like I said, I’ve always been a massive fan of Taylor Swift.
