The hook-heavy pop rockers, Weezer, have covered everybody's favourite sing-a-long anthem, Africa, by Toto!
Today truly is a blessed day. It is a day that none of us expected to come, nor knew we wanted it to. Unless of course, you are the person behind the @weezerafrica twitter account - as the handle suggests, this is a fan page entirely devoted to the idea of Weezer performing Toto's seminal 1982 sensation, Africa. According to Noisey, the page was set up by a 14-year-old named Mary who started the Twitter campaign. The Noisey team, a subsidiary of Vice, have been campaigning for the band's release of the song too. Quite simply put, the popular music centred digital news site said;
The campaign started with a simple tweet to the lead singer of Weezer, Rivers Cuomo...
Months went by but the page stayed hopeful...
hope weezer's cover of africa comes out soon#WeezerCoverAfrica

Their success didn't come without some playful trolling by the California rock band after they released a cover of Toto's (let's be honest) other popular song...
it's not every day that you get trolled by @Weezer ... #WeezerCoverAfrica#WeezerCoveredRosanna pic.twitter.com/fA95RDKHME

Finally, after 6 months since the page was set up and the first tweet was posted, it happened...
It happened. For weeks we all harassed @RiversCuomo to have Weezer cover "Africa" and they finally did it. Take a bow, everyone.

What's next for the page? What band will be next to feature on a special Africa only cover album?
