6 Best Beer Gardens in Cardiff

Exams: out Pints: in

As exams are easing off and the sun has started to shine, the first place we all want to be is with your pals and an ice cold pint.  Here in Wales pubs and scenery are some of the things we do best, so if you find yourself in the city when the sun is out be sure to check out the best of Cardiff’s beer gardens…

Gwdihw

Grab a beer and soak up the sun in one of Cardiff’s quirkiest venues. Whether there’s a band playing, a funk night or an open-air disco, nestle amongst the pillows and fairy nights and you’re guaranteed to have a good time.

The Mount Stuart This JD Wetherspoon pub was opened after a £2.1 million refurbishment of the building back in 2013. We all love spoons, but this one is particularly grand due to it’s upstairs terrace, boasting gorgeous views of Cardiff Bay, The Barrage, Penarth and beyond.

Buffalo

This award-winning bar and live music space is one of Cardiff’s longest-standing independents, offering expertly-crafted cocktails and great food.  The famous cocktail garden plays host to both acoustic nights and DJ’s in the open air. Think vintage lounge meets live music venue meets sun-drenched beer garden in the heart of the city centre.

The Woodville Brightly coloured, Pub Dog of the Day series, and (very) aesthetically pleasing. With pool tables, pub quizzes and cider slushies there’s no wonder The Woodville is one of the best student pubs to go for a few cold ones…

Depot

Depot is actually a 24,000sq foot, disused warehouse just 5 minutes walk from Cardiff central station, which has been transformed into a funky, pop-up events space. Playing host to everything from street food events to roller discos, it’s certainly cemented a reputation as the go-to place for Cardiff’s alternative night out.

Porters

Despite its deceptively plain appearance from the outside, this bar is a real hidden treasure. Inside is an old theatre converted into a multifunctional space that plays host to live bands, open mic, comedy nights, theatre and a vast craft beer selection. Out back is a beer garden fitting of the building’s history with theatre seats, sofas and a collection of supersize games, such as giant Jenga or Connect 4.
