A relative newcomer on the scene, Ragla has risen from obscurity to supporting some of the biggest names in UK Bass music in just over a year since his inaugural event. Ragla has played alongside the likes of Darkzy, Skepsis and Deppz as well as sets at for the legendary Concrete music who also featured in our Biggest Club Brands in Portsmouth.

At just 19 years old, he’s got bags of potential and a passion for all things UK Bass. Straight out of Croydon, now based in Portsmouth, Ragla looks set to conquer the South Coast with his blistering mixes and electric live performances.

Ragla sits down to chat to us about all things music, dream line-ups and his first fan photo. Check out his guest mix below:

So this is your first Native Mix, tell us a little bit about it!

It’s a lot of what I’ve been listening to more recently as well as some class tunes from some DJ’s that are considered more underground like Pappz, Nautika and S3 Dubs - there are a lot of bangers in there that I feel deserve more recognition.

What else are you working on at the minute?

I am currently working on producing a Drum & Bass/Bassline EP with DJ Atom, which is looking to be finished for a September release. There are a few singles on the way, they’re in the last stages of production right now so watch out for those.

I’ve also got some big news for Summer but unfortunately I can’t say too much more about it right now.

Can you tell our readers any more about the EP?

Sadly not, it’s currently untitled, other than it’s a good mixture of everything I’m listening to at the minute and I’m really excited about it!

Got any events coming up that we don't know about?

I’m playing a festival in Southampton this summer called Orphic. Other than that me and my team are in talks with a few promoters at the minute, we’re looking to put together some huge events later this year - so watch this space!

How did you get into DJing?

I grew up with a few friends that DJ’d our house parties and was always interested in giving it a go myself. I decided to buy a DJ controller in my first year of uni and it all started from there really.

From then on it kind of snowballed; I played a few house parties, then my first event in October 2017 at Concrete Thursdays. From then on I've Supported the likes of Skepsis, Nubass, Deppz, Macky Gee and opened for Darkzy on his Dark Nightz tour.

Cool, so what’s been the most memorable moment of your DJ career so far?

My most memorable moment would have to be dropping the last song of my set at the Dark Nightz tour, just to have nothing to focus on after letting play and seeing the crowds reaction was absolutely incredible. Easily the best moment of my career so far.

Another honourable mention would have to be walking through the crowd to grab a drink after a set and being asked for a photo, I mean, the guy probably didn't even know who I was at the time, but it was just a brilliant feeling.

And if you weren't DJing, what else would you be doing?

I would probably be an events manager or promoter for the same style of music that I DJ, I just love the scene!

So, in an alternative reality if you were a promoter, who would be on the bill of your first event if you had an unlimited budget?

I’d have to say King Of The Rollers, they’re absolutely insane! And Darkzy, I owe it to him as one of the first artists that got me onto Bassline. Finally I’d get Holy Goof on there because he has one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen, hands down.

Which UK Bass artists should our readers be looking out for?

Well, they 100% should be watching NE.MAN, they’re putting out some filthy D’n’B tunes at the minute. For bassline heads, Twinide is also sick.

DJ Atom is one of my good mates and he’s definitely a force to be reckoned with, his mixes are wicked. Papps has also been coming out with some bangers recently, check all of them out!

Finally, what are you listening to at the moment?

At the minute I'm listening to a lot of Bushbaby, Zero, Chris Lorenzo, Serum, Turno and Heist. The sounds they create are brilliant and really inspire me to create more music.
