Kendal Calling is the Lake District's best worst-kept secret. This independent boutique festival, whilst small, punches far above its weight from it's curated line ups to the production, atmosphere and all round vibes.
2010 saw this ever growing festival pick up 'Best Small UK Festival' Award at the UK Festival Awards, as voted by the public. Plus, Kendal Calling also won the industry award 'Best Small Festival' at the LIVE UK awards 2011. Sitting on the edge of the Lake District, this festival is a quick shoot up the M6 from Manchester and Liverpool and, not too far away from Newcastle or Scotland. Perfect for any student wanting to get out of the city and party in the open air.
Maybe it's the eclectic mix of artists, bands and DJs providing the perfect balance between rock, indie and dance, the idyllic location of Lother Castle grounds or the value for money (3 nights for £139!) that has got us excited for Kendal Calling.
We challenge you not to find something on their stacked line up that doesn't appeal to you:
Absolute legend, need we say more?
BBC 6 Music's 2018 album of the year winners, Bristol's friendliest punks and quite possibly one of the best live bands out there right now. Expect raucous high-energy performances with wild guitars and politically charged lyrics.
One of the biggest up and comers on the UK grime scene, expect nothing but gritty and raw pars aimed at Theresa May and the current Brexit sociopolitical climate on top of rough and ready grime instrumentals.
Indie rock at it's finest. Jagger-esque stage antics mixed with jangling, noodly guitars.
Downtempo, technicolour electronica; perfect sounds for a dreamy summer festival evening. Definitely for fans of James Blake, Bonobo and more.
Bass. Line. Not for the faint-hearted, but for those looking to get the heart pumping. Wobbly basslines, squelchy synths and good times guaranteed.

Whilst these are just a handful of the artists we're getting hyped for, there's plenty more up and down the line up poster worth splashing out on a weekend ticket for. With comedy, food, art and much, much more, Kendal Calling is a total gem tucked away in the Lake District.
