Don't Miss: Lindi Ortega @ Komedia

by Kate Dennett, Jun 12, 2018

Lindi Ortega will be making a stop at Brighton’s well-loved venue Komedia as part of her 2018 UK tour.

Canadian country singer-songwriter Lindi Ortega is embarking on her 2018 tour, after realising her seventh full-length album, Liberty. Her concept album follows the narrative of her protagonist, who experiences heartbreak, followed by revenge, and then ultimately, acceptance and redemption.

As the story moves towards redemption, the melodies and tempos change, with the dulcet instrumental adopting a sound closely resembling a ballad. Complimented by Charlie McCoy’s talents on the harmonica, her tracks find the perfect balance between the dramatic use of the electric guitar, and the smooth sounds commonly associated with country music.

Drawing on her own experiences in her album, Ortega wants to guide people through their own dark times, comforting her listeners with the knowledge that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Liberty has shown her own improvement as an artist, with her refusing to be restricted with her sound, merging aspects of country, roots and blues music to create her first concept album. Ortega has successfully created an empowering album inspired by some of the greatest Western soundtracks of all time.

One of her biggest influences were the Western soundtracks composed by Ennio Morricone. Best known for his work on Western movies, such as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, and A Fistful of Dollars, his composing was revolutionary in defining the sound now commonly associated with Western movies. Ortega is drawing on these distinctive characteristics to bring the Western sound into country music, changing popular assumptions of the genre in doing so.

Luckily Ortega is currently in the UK, performing her latest album at numerous venues across the country, so fans are not short of places to catch Ortega while she’s on the continent.

Performing at Brighton’s intimate venue Komedia on 12th June, the audience will get the chance to hear Ortega in a resonant performance space. Komedia has been host to over 700 performances of comedy, music, cabaret and theatre, featuring some of the most outstanding talents in the UK. With tickets currently on sale, don’t miss your chance to see Ortega perform live in Brighton, at a unique and hospitable venue.
