Prison Abolition - What is it? How can this happen? What does a world without prisons look like? How can we stay safe? Come to our talk to listen to experts and activists discuss prison abolition politics and answer your questions.
At Goldsmiths Stuent Union we support prison abolition as we know from the lived experiences of Black people and survivors of sexual violence that the current structure does not work. We are in favour of abolishing the prison system as we know it and rebuilding a world of compassionate and holistic justice, addressing the core causes of social inequality that are the root of crime.
We are honoured to have the following Black speakers sharing their expertise and experiences with us:
Dr. Aviah Sarah Day
Criminology Lecturer at Birkbeck College and Sisters Uncut activist @Aviah_Sarah_Day
Chelsea A. Jackson MA MSc MPP (she/her), Abolitionist & Political Scientist, CRADLE Community @mschelsea_j @cradlecommunity
Ayotomi - Representative from SWARM Collective (Sex Worker Advocacy and Resistance Movement)
Welfare and Liberation Officer at Goldsmiths Students Union
and to facilitate the event we have
Representative from Black Abolitionists UK
The talk will be followed by a Q&A, come to learn more about how the current system is failing us and the future we must fight for.
