The Bierkeller in Bristol is to close with immediate effect, much to the shock of the local and national music scene.

The rock-orientated music venue in the centre of the city has played host to legendary gigs from the likes of Nirvana, Arctic Monkeys and Royal Blood in the past, but the owners of the venue say it is time to move on. The building on All Saints Street is being redeveloped, however the Bierkeller is not included in the future of the plans.

All gig tickets originally valid for upcoming events at the Bierkeller will remain valid when the show moves to another venue in the city. The 750-capacity venue doesn’t just host live music, but also offers comedy, theatre shows and club nights. It is one of the most iconic venues in Bristol that had a large array of things to do, but sadly it has been shut down immediately.

It’s a big problem in Bristol at the moment. As we know, Thekla has been threatened with closure for a while amid planning permission, with other venues exposed to the same threat. Meanwhile, Bristol’s chance for a new high-profile music arena is stalling. Plans were in place to build the new hall in the centre of Bristol, near Temple Meads, however a new location was suggested, namely the Brabazon hangar in Filton.
