Just days after the closure of the Bierkeller in Bristol, The Star and Garter in the Montpelier area of the city has now shut down indefinitely, as posted via the Save Bristol Nightlife Facebook page.

Landlord Dutty Ken, real name Louis Hayles, was in charge of the pub for 24 years before he died suddenly last February. The local area in Bristol is part of the African-Carribean community, and Dutty Ken transformed the pub and indeed the surrounding area during his time as landlord.

Famous Bristolian DJ Derek, who passed away a couple of years ago, was a fan favourite at the pub and many visitors to the area have fond memories of his shows. They have all been paying tribute to him, Dutty Ken, and others on Facebook. 

It is the second venue to close this week, after the Bierkeller closed just two days ago. You can read about that here. There have been many problems for local music venues in Bristol, which gained national attention recently when Thekla was targeted for closure due to planning permission changes. Bands such as Two Door Cinema Club were appealing for it to be saved, given it was their first gig outside of Ireland.
