There’s less than two weeks to go now until Portsmouth welcomes its first Comic Con to the Guildhall on 5th and 6th May, and this incredible line-up of guests and exhibitions is definitely not one to miss! Organised in collaboration with Tripwire MagazinePortsmouth Comic Con plays host to some of the best in comic, film, TV and pop culture entertainment. This is the largest Comic Con event in the south and is set to rival even the most established conventions in the UK.

Celebrity guests include actors from Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and the voice of Scooby Doo; ruh-oh Raggy, looks like this is gearing up to be one of the most star-studded events Pompey has ever seen! There’ll be opportunities to hear the stars speak on life behind the scenes and on-set experiences, don’t forget your autograph books either because there will be signing opportunities throughout the weekend.

Comic Con will also be celebrating Superman’s 80th birthday with an exclusive exhibition of images, from his first appearance in Action Comics #1, taking in the Golden and Silver Age, right up to the present day, with art by comic book superstars including Neal Adams, Alex Ross, Frank Miller, Frank Quitely and many more.

The University of Portsmouth will be showcasing state-of-the-art Virtual Reality tech for guests in attendance. Channel your inner Obi-Wan at the LED Sabre School, make sure you have the high ground! If that isn’t enough to quench your thirst for all things Star Wars, R2D2 will also be roaming around on the day - we expect he’ll be searching for C3PO who has no doubt gotten himself into a precarious situation. There will also be a hover-bike game for you lucky lot to try out!

Portsmouth's favourite gaming spot Game Over are providing over 1,500 retro games at the event from the 80s and 90s - including some of your favourite childhood consoles. Challenge your mates to a round of Mario Kart, or duke it out on Street Fighter, drinks are on the loser! Make sure you bring an extra hand for the N64 controllers - we’re still not sure what they were thinking with that design.

If tabletop gaming is more your thing, Games Workshop will be bringing their A-game; offering painting, gaming and building tutorials for pros and noobs alike. They will also be on-hand to walk guests through the rich history of the Warhammer franchise. Prepare yourself for a weekend of mages, mechs and marines from the 41st millenium.

Comic Con is also taking over the streets of Portsmouth. There’s been a zombie Apocalypse in Portsmouth City and we need the superheroes of Portsmouth to help stop the invasion! James Waterfield (Lawn Of The Dead) will be running a Street Art Workshop where visitors can come and paint their own zombie or create their own superhero: take home your creations, we advise maximum-security containment of your new living-dead buddy to avoid any fatal accidents.

Other happenings include cosplay competitions; a Steampunk deck and a series of panels hosted by some of the best and most experienced artists and writers in the comic industry.

Tickets are on sale now, but hurry because they’re selling out fast! Students can grab themselves a heavily discounted ticket, starting from just £10 for a single day.
