A list of the best indie summer albums that allows you to just press play and let the playlist do the talking…

Gengahr -  Where Wildness Grows (2018)

I thought we should start the list with a colourful, hazy and electronic album brought to us by the very talented Gengahr. The London based quadrat creates a distinct artful narrative with a pinch of electronic reverb. Their most recent album, ‘Where Wilderness Grows’ released in Mach 2018 has been described as a ‘delicate’ sound with a very ‘easy and breezy’ listen. This album shares all the positive elements that a band experiences when experimenting and exploring a new sound. This album can be shared with a variety of listeners and portrays a summer colour pallet to the mind.

Beach Fossils - Somersault (2017)

Beach Fossils are a quadrat band from Brooklyn, America. The group uncovers the essentials of indie rock creating waves of sound and memorizing acoustic guitar solos. This band is well known for their ‘atmospheric’ sound and has managed to merge the forms of indie rock with jangle pop creating their new sound and overall band image. My imagination goes wild while listening to this album; it places me in a surfer’s paradise. Somersault is defiantly another easy-listening album that creates a calm and collected atmosphere for everyone listening.

Florence and The Machine - High As Hope (2018)

Now for a more recent album, it was only released earlier this month. Florence Welch is renowned for her powerful vocal chords and outspoken lyrics, following from a 3-year break of music Florence has managed to deliver an emotional and impactful album. The first single on the album ‘Hunger’ has had an impactful response with her powerful and soul-stirring lyrics. This album is one to cry your heart out to on a road trip whilst reflecting on a connection of once feeling lost or unsure.

Super Organism - Super Organism (2018)

Super Organism is an 8-man indie pop band that is originated from London. Their self-titled album was released back early this year and already has managed to nab themselves a places the NCP Tiny Desk Sessions. This album has been described as an early take on MGMT, with their wide range of DIY instruments such as a blowing through a straw to a blowing a car horn. Super Organism defiantly creates an uplifting atmosphere and allows the listener to enjoy an experimental and edgy album. Nice to see a breath of fresh air.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Sex & Food (2018)

Ruben Neilson expressed his full emotions and every detail of his life story into this long-awaited album. With one of the songs talking about an unorthodox relationship between him, his wife and their girlfriend and how they show their multi-love. This album shows a range of commercial and non-commercial tracks with variety in tempo, an album created to fit all moods. Sex & Food has received high rated reviews for the crafty and psychological work behind it. UMO opens up to knowing that there is a lot going on in the word around us, a lot that should worry us but he managed to make a positive outcome with this incredible album.
