Black Honey played the final date of their UK tour in Portsmouth this week, get the lowdown here!

Black Honey put on an incredible show at the Wedgewood Rooms on Tuesday; the final date of their current tour and an incredible end to six days of madness, for this burgeoning Brighton four-piece. The tour marked the end of a year long absence from the circuit for the band and they certainly haven’t slowed down any.

Support came from Flowvers, a 3-piece indie band from Portsmouth, and Nova Twins, a punk duo from South London. Flowvers, with a sound heavily influenced by shoegaze and new wave, are reminiscent of indie favourites Catfish and the Bottlemen or The Amazons. It’s rare to see a support act as tight and compelling as Flowvers, which is great news for a band that’s striving to become “the best thing you’ve ever heard”. With the bar already set high Nova Twins followed suit and blew the crowd away with a blistering set, showcasing their rebellious punk sound for the first time ever in Pompey.

Black Honey raised that bar even higher and turned The Wedge into 70s party central, with disco balls galore and matching zebra-print suits. The crowd was ablaze with energy and got almost as involved as the musicians themselves. Don’t believe us? At the end of their set, a bunch of lucky audience members got to party on stage, rocking out and living their best life with the band members.

And that’s the beauty of shows in smaller venues - the intimacy between the musicians and audience, something Black Honey hit right on the head. Although the date marked the finale of Black Honey’s tour, don’t be disappointed because they are soon to return later this year with a bigger tour and shiny brand-new material. So keep your eyes peeled and make sure Black Honey are firmly on your radar, there’s probably not a more exciting live act in their genre that translates just as well to the studio!
