The creme de la creme of Brighton's club scene, sorted by vibe.
One of the biggest problems with clubnights is that you never know how good they're going to be until you've paid the entry fee. Sometimes you'll step into a party that's absolutely poppin' and sometimes you'll get flashbacks to your year 8 school disco, for the most part, it's completely unpredictable.
However, there are a few clubnights in Brighton that have earnt their stripes, so to speak. They are the consistent performers, providing banging tunes and crowded dancefloors week in and week out and no matter what flavour of music you prefer, there is a spot in Brighton for you:
Hip Hop // Donuts // Every Tuesday @ Patterns
This Brighton institution has been the place to go for hip hop for the last 5 years. Having nicely settled in to their new venue, Patterns, Donuts continues to play everything from the classics, Biggie, Tribe, NWA, to contemporary greats like Kanye, Kendrick and Vince Staples. This eclectic mix of timeless legends and flavours of the month will have you wilin' out all night. With their name referencing the late J Dilla's seminal album, you just know this clubnight represents the gold-standard of hip hop parties.
Funk, Soul, Jazz // Casa's Live // Every Wednesday @ Casa's
If you fancy something a little different to Pryzm on a Wednesday, head down to Casablanca Jazz Club to see the resident funk/pop band jam live, followed by a crop of talented DJs. The resident band has been playing Casa's for years, providing banger after banger with an unbelievably tight set-up. If you want to boogie to some Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Earth, Wind and Fire, this one's for you.
Psych // OZ // Monthly @ Green Door Store
For a dose of mind-expanding psychedelia, the monthly OZ at Green Door Store is the place for you. I stumbled across a sense of euphoria in this place, and I'm sure you could too. With a host of DJs spinning their favourite mind-bending, foot-stompin records, joined by psychedelic projections, a bubble machine, giant fabrics and burning incense, it's hard not to lose your marbles at this event.
LGBTQ // FOMO // Every Thursday @ Revenge
If you crave a queer space to be totally free and celebrate whatever the fuck you want, don't become riddled with a fear of missing out, get yourself down to FOMO at Revenge, every Thursday. This two room club plays great pop and house music all night, and the drink deals will not disappoint.
RnB // Bossy // Monthly @ Patterns
Bossy was built upon the idea of bringing a female fronted club night to Brighton, where everybody could come together and just have an amazing night with no judgement and dance the night away to some nostalgic RnB. After forging their name at Green Door Store, Bossy has relocated to Patterns and remains, without a doubt, the best place for RnB in all of Brighton.
Pop // Shit Pop // Monthly @ The Haunt
Every now and then you want a night where you can dance and sing along to the cringiest, shittest pop music that's ever been created, and Shit Pop delivers that on a monthly basis at the haunt. From Bieber to the Black Eyed Peas to friggin' Scatman, the shittiest of shit pop will be served for you clubbing delight on the last Friday of every month.
Drum 'n' Bass // Strategy // Every Thursday @ Volks
I know what you really want. You want the a dark, internal-organ shaking pummel of both drum AND bass. Volks has a reputation as one of the most delightfully grimey, unbelievably heavy nightclubs in Brighton. If you're drawn to the darkside and want a night of pounding bass rhythms, Volks on a Thursday has your name on it.
Reggae, Dub, Roots // Strictly Reggae // Every Monday @ Volks
If you get the craving for some dancehall and reggae on a Monday night, Volks has got you covered. Every week Volks becomes the closest Brighton has to a Jamaican beach party, just waiting for you to move 'n groove all night.
Electronic // Foundations // Every Friday @ Patterns
This new weekly night at Patterns is not so much genre specific, but instead provides an eclectic mix of talent, putting the local scene first and putting on interesting events that offer a new and exciting option for Friday nights out in Brighton. From UKG to Jungle to Techno, Foundations is pushing the boundaries of a genre-defined weekly night every Friday at Patterns.
