Calum Scott came to Bristol earlier this week and gave an emotional, intense set to the loving crowd.
Making it to the final of Britain's Got Talent, Calum Scott released his debut album Only Human last month and has been touring it over the UK and Europe. As a relaity TV contestant you could be forgiven for thinking he falls into the same category as other winners who have a bit of fame but then quieten down a bit.
Not Calum Scott. He is something special, something new.
Staying in the talent show theme, support act Daniel Doherty would definitely get picked immediately if he ever decided to enter ‘The Voice’. His talent is incredible.
His songs are powerful and emotive, if you shut your eyes some of them almost make you want to cry. Then you open your eyes and the display in front of you consists of some Grade A facial expressions. Maybe it was the cider in me but I starting feeling an overwhelming urge to laugh at the huge expressions he was making, as apparently did some other members of the audience.
Having said that, he possesses an amazing voice, which is not only tuneful but also scottish! He also does make light of he fact that he pulls these faces.
Calum Scott on the other hand is a proud Yorkshire man. AND HIS VOICE! If I’m going to be honest I had my doubts. I’ve never been a big fan of the Simon Cowell overdone talent shows, but Calum Scott is looking to be a success story.
He makes you want to get up and dance, cry and laugh across his set and it’s such a great feeling. The most powerful of his songs is ‘No Matter What’, written when he came out to his friends and family. It’s a beautiful song and when he started to cry I almost joined in!
Calum Scott has a beautiful voice and if you’re ever in the mood for a powerful ballad I would recommend downloading a few of the acoustic songs from his album Only Human. They make for a good shower song as well. The duet with Leona Lewis entitled ‘You Are The Reason‘ is a personal favourite.
An enjoyable gig overall, definitely get tickets for his future shows if you can.
