All hail the Sweatros king…
This month, Metros’ resident DJ, Hywel Ricketts, is celebrating a legendary 25-years behind the decks. Morphing from Metropolitan to Monroes, then to ‘The Tunnel Club,’ one of Cardiff’s first gay clubs, and finally to Metros, Hywel’s been with the club since 1993, gracing the decks on Wednesdays (Cheapskates) and Fridays (Havoc).
Metros has firmly cemented itself as a city landmark, student staple, and a practically-cult status club by spinning the best alternative tracks, their famous Aquadan cocktail in a bucket, and of course the 3am toast.
When asked a why it’s succeeded as Wales’ longest running alternative club in a recent interview, Hywel replied “It's not just the music, it's a team effort - from the doorman to the bar staff to the managers, it's a big family. Without them, there would be no club. Metros is not like any other club, it's got a massively unique quality it. Although it is like Marmite. You either love it to bits or it's the worst club ever. Luckily for us, most people love it to bits.”
So get down on the (impressively sticky) dance floor and pay homage to DJ Hywel Ricketts…
