Apparently they 'ripped off' a poet...

Daft Punk and The Weekend are reportedly being sued for $5 million by Somali-American poet Yasminah. She claims that their 2016 hit 'Starboy' 'ripped off' her 1999 track 'Hooyo'.

Apparently, the songs share the 'same hook, same key and similar tempo', with Yasminah accusing the French electronic duo and Canadian RnB artist of 'stealing the beat'.

The Weeknd, real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, released the song with Daft Punk as the lead track from his album of the same name, and there are reports of blog posts in which fans have pointed out the similarities between the tracks.

Two of Yasminah's producers previously threatened law suits against the singer but settled out of court. Since Yasminah never received a cut, she is now seeking 5 big ones of her own.

Listen to the two tracks below (spoiler alert: they aren't terribly similar).
