Introducing one of Brighton's most vibrant music brands.

Just in time for summer, a soothing sound has swept up on the seaside, in the form of brand new Brighton-based party collective Dulcet Tones. Promising something akin to the vibrations of a harp sailing into your aural canals - and somehow hoping to achieve this effect via the blurred boundaries between mutated forms of house, disco and techno - Dulcet Tones has arrived with something of a bang.

Not only have they cornered local artist John Molesworth (who has produced the artwork for parties such as Fourth World and Mixed Signals, as well as recently covering RSD in London) to make what is some of the most eye-watering event artwork we’ve seen in months, Dulcet Tones also feature a roster of residents who have had a hand in various Brighton institutions of fun, such as Patterns, 1 Brighton FM, Soul City, JABBA and Westpier. Having agonized over what their name should be for an age, eventually the crew settled on Dulcet Tones, if only so they could put the dictionary of obscure phrases down and get on with the more interesting stuff like who to book. For their first booking, Dulcet Tones have bought the Norse god of the dancefloor, Bjørn Torske down to MONO on Sunday May 28th (a bank holiday!)

One of the key figures in the always-inventive Norwegian electronic music scene, Torske has been making and playing music for approaching three decades now, having been involved with such seminal labels as Svek, Smalltown Supersound and Tellé, as well as being declared an influence on the likes of Todd Terje, Prins Thomas, and many more. His production output ranges from the slightly absurd sides of nu-disco to rough and rolling takes on house music, while his DJ sets traverse these disparate territories - and beyond - with ease. He has also releases music as Krisp - notably on MONO’s opening guests, DJ Fett Burger and DJ Sotofett’s Sex Tags imprint.

Expect a set as weird as it is wonderful; as freaky as it is fun. The Dulcet Tones team aim to aid the vibrancy of Torske’s set, having included ‘live cello loops’ and ‘immersive theatre’ in the description for the event. As well as this, whispers abound that their creative team will give the imposing structures of MONO something of a makeover, providing an aesthetic accompaniment to the music. What that might entail remains to be seen, but certainly (and perhaps refreshingly), Dulcet Tones don’t seem to be taking themselves too seriously. Rather, it appears they want to create an environment from which optimal doses of fun can be extracted. Listen to an exclusive mix from Dulcet Tones duo Laurie and Merlot Joe below:
