UPSU Cheerleading club, Portsmouth Phoenix, hold their charity spring ball at Portsmouth's PRYZM.

Charity has, in the past, pushed people to perform superhuman acts of selflessness. In 2006 David Walliams raised over £1 million by swimming the English Channel and in 2010 John Bishop raised over £4 million by completing a 290-mile triathlon. UPSU Cheerleading Society, Portsmouth Phoenix, too have managed to pull together something quite incredible for charity this Spring, holding the Phoenix Ball at one of the hottest nightclubs in Portsmouth, PRYZM.

The night brought together some of the most popular student pastimes - drinking, dancing and and fundraising in the name of Teenage Cancer Trust. Portsmouth’s PRYZM opened up the dancefloor of their main roo to UoP students, running raffles and competitions throughout the night.

It was inspiring to see so many students come out so well dressed in the name of charity. That so many students would attend - during such a crucial time of the year for university students, the dreaded deadline season - was a fantastic testament to the charitable party spirit of the Portsmouth student community. The ball was a raging success, raising £250 for Teenage Cancer Trust, so we hope this student event is one that becomes a yearly tradition. Because where else can you drink Jagerbombs and raise money for charity at the same time?
