Its closure is unfortunately unavoidable. Here are the intimate club's final events.
Everyone's favourite undergound dance music spot MONO is closing its doors at the end of October as the team behind the nightclub are moving on to new projects. The nightclub had previously taken the spot of Riki Tik's on the King's Road Arches.
A tiny, intimate dance space, MONO was Brighton's beacon of underground culture. Limited by its size, the club swiftly became a foil to the city's larger venues, Patterns, The Arch, and Concorde 2.
With space only for 200 people (and even then, it was tight), MONO's booking represented a different side of the electronic music spectrum to the rest of the city, inviting names like Pariah, MssngNo, Riz La Teef, Scratcha DVA - stalwarts of the UK underground scene.
On the flip side, many of MONO's previous shows have denoted the team's exquisite eye for upcoming artists and DJs - names like Méle, DJ Haus, Jane Fitz, Peggy Gou, and Project Pablo have all spun sets in the tunnel over the last year.
And finally, MONO represented something invaluable to Brighton's club scene - an affordable, high end venue with a world-class soundsystem, where first time events organisers could get their foot on the ladder in an already hyper-competitive market. MONO has given a platform to some of Brighton's finest events team such as Fourth World, Discojuice, Missing People, ATTIC, DSTY, Polar, Innaspace - the list goes on.
We will see what takes MONO's place on the seafront, and whether it will fill the void left by the superb nightclub. The cynic in me suspects not, but we will see.
The only thing left to do is to ensure that the club, which has done so much for Brighton's nightlife over the last twelve months, is given a proper send off. Here are some of MONO's final events, you can find a full list at the bottom of the article:
