End Of The Road is a festival for all. Featuring acts and artists from a never-ending list of genres, there is something for everyone; from the groundbreaking new talents, to those who defined the sound of decades gone by, End Of The Road is the festival for real music lovers. Nestled in Wiltshire’s picturesque Larmer Tree Gardens, this is a festival that keeps its fingers on the pulse of a wide range of different genres and scenes.

St. Vincent

To sum up St Vincent in a sentence, or even a paragraph, is a tricky task. Drawing from a huge bank of influences from David Bowie to Kate Bush, Pink Floyd to Prince and Talking Heads to King Crimson, Annie Clark’s unique style and musical virtuosity seen her rise to pop stardom whilst staying solidly ahead of the curve as a hugely relevant musician and artist.

With five albums to date, St Vincent provides emotionally rich songs on Actor and Strange Mercy through to the more propulsive electronic rhythms of her self-titled Grammy Winning album. Each record a standalone tribute to her dazzlingly creative mind, last year’s Masseducation saw Annie continue her thrilling musical journey with an expansive, daring and emotionally gripping album that has seen her continue to develop as a musical icon and innovator.

St Vincent has proven time after time her solo uniqueness and innovation, not only as an incredible guitarist, but as a songwriter and composer. With a perfect balance of defiant experimentation, an artful avant-garde aesthetic and creative musical approach, St Vincent has forged a sound that she has claimed as her own.

Be prepared for more than just a show as St Vincent transforms mere gigs into spellbinding avant-garde performances which push the boundaries of what live music can be.

Oh Sees

This is a band you cannot afford to miss. Oh Sees (formerly known as Thee Oh Sees) sit firmly as the kings of the garage rock scene, and rightly so. The John Dwyer fronted powerhouse of band have consistently defined and redefined garage-rock and neo-psychedelia across 20 albums, each exploring new sounds, themes and styling.

The versatility of the Oh Sees’ sound is what defines them as a groundbreaking band and torch-bearers of the garage-rock and psych-rock scenes. From high octane, primal garage rock that travels beyond the outer limits of guitar music’s regular orbit, to spaced-out acoustic and synth explorations, an Oh Sees show is an other-worldly experience.

If you manage to fight your way to the front row, you’ll be greeted by not one, but two drummers placed firmly front and centre stage, creating the powerful, rhythmic engine to John Dwyers soul-melting guitar madness. Be prepared to dig in to some of the most furious and scorching garage rock out there, with Oh Sees set to shake the festival foundations again this year.

Mulatu Astatke

Looking to discover something you’ve never heard before? Perhaps you’re on the search for a new genre to indulge in. In which case, Mulatu Astatke is the perfect remedy to your musical ills. A true innovator and musical pioneer, Mulatu is credited with forging the Ethio-Jazz genre; a blend of Western Jazz and Funk with Ethiopian scales and folk melodies which come together to create a unique sound that has driven a groundbreaking career spanning five decades, three continents, and continues to be more popular than ever.

In recent years, a surge in interest in music history outside of the Western world (thank the hipsters I suppose), has seen people digging through vinyl crates to find hidden gems of the past. Be sure to check out fellow Ethiopian musicians Hailu Mergia, Mahmoud Ahmed, and Nigerian funk-master, William Onyeabor if you like what you hear!

Kaitlin Aurelia Smith

L.A based composer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith is the perfect artist to fully immerse yourself into an ethereal sphere of sound and music. Using rare modular synthesizers as her primary instrument, Kaitlyn creates dense, sonic landscapes that will have you forgetting where you are.

A unique spectacle, expect lush, heady concoctions of effervescent, kaleidoscopic electronic music, perfect for laying back in the September sun and expanding your perceptions of music itself!

Shame

Since their EOTR festival performance last year, men of the moment Shame are a band sky-rocketing towards the top. Their debut album, Songs of Praise, has been met with an amazing repsonse, and for good reason. Packed full of visceral, thrilling, 80s tinged post-punk, the South London band are proving that guitar music still has life in it yet.

With a sound that draws from a familiar, Fugazi-esque arsenal whilst managing to sound effortlessly fresh and relevant to its time, Shame look set to blow up in 2018, and their live shows reaffirm their drive in keeping the fire of guitar music burning. Expect volatile and energetic vibes throughout, Ian Curtis-like antics and a front-man with a tendency to somehow lose his clothing throughout the show.

These are just a few of the huge line-up of artists and bands heading to End Of The Road this September, make sure to check out the full line-up and grab a ticket!
